A Wet and Stormy Week Ahead for Brandon

Keep the umbrella close this week.

Brandon is heading into another stretch of typical late-summer Florida weather, with plenty of humidity, temperatures near 90 degrees and a chance of thunderstorms just about every day.

For Tuesday, September 8, expect mostly cloudy and humid conditions with a couple of thunderstorms possible during the afternoon. The high should reach around 90 degrees, with an overnight low near 74.

Wednesday could be one of the hotter days of the week, with temperatures climbing to around 92 degrees. A heavier afternoon thunderstorm is possible, and a strong downpour could temporarily cause water to collect on roadways and in areas with poor drainage.

The pattern continues Thursday and Friday, with highs around 90 degrees and scattered afternoon thunderstorms possible.

Heading into the weekend, temperatures should ease slightly, but the rain chances aren't going away.

Saturday is expected to bring a mixture of clouds and sunshine with a couple of afternoon thunderstorms and a high near 88 degrees. Sunday looks wetter, with periods of rain and thunderstorms possible during the day and a high around 89.

Weather Watch

The biggest concern this week isn't necessarily an all-day washout. It's the possibility of brief but heavy thunderstorms.

Florida downpours can quickly reduce visibility and leave standing water on local roads. Drivers should slow down during heavy rain and avoid attempting to drive through flooded areas when the depth of the water isn't known.

Lightning is another concern with afternoon storms. If thunder can be heard, outdoor activities should move indoors until the storm has safely passed.

Planning Ahead

If you have outdoor plans this week, mornings will generally offer the better opportunity, particularly before the afternoon heat helps thunderstorms develop.

Keep an eye on the sky, allow a little extra travel time when storms develop, and don't assume sunshine early in the day means Brandon will stay dry through the afternoon.
