Brandon can expect another familiar September weather pattern this week: warm, humid conditions with recurring afternoon thunderstorms.

Tuesday starts the week in the low 90s, with thunderstorms becoming more likely during the afternoon. Storm chances continue through the middle and latter part of the week, and some storms could produce heavy rainfall, frequent lightning and gusty winds. The National Weather Service forecast also shows breezier conditions around midweek.

Temperatures should gradually become a little more comfortable as the week progresses. After highs around the lower 90s early in the week, daytime temperatures are expected to settle closer to the upper 80s by the weekend, while overnight lows generally remain in the low-to-mid 70s.

Weather Watch

September thunderstorms can develop quickly. Lightning and locally heavy rainfall will be the primary concerns, particularly during the afternoon and early evening. Remember: flooding can occur even when rainfall doesn't last particularly long if a storm produces a heavy downpour.

Planning Ahead

If you've got yard work, exercise or other outdoor plans, morning remains the better bet. Keep an eye on the sky later in the day and have an indoor alternative available once thunderstorms begin developing.

And don't put away the summer clothes just because fall officially arrives next week. The National Weather Service notes that West Central Florida typically continues experiencing high humidity and temperatures from the mid-80s into the lower 90s well into October.
