A Tampa Favorite Is Coming to Brandon

Brandon residents who have made the drive into South Tampa for a Wright’s Gourmet House sandwich or a slice of cake may eventually have a much shorter trip.

The longtime Tampa deli and bakery is expanding into Brandon, with plans for a new location at 328 Brandon Town Center Drive, near Brandon Exchange.

And this won't be a small satellite location.

Plans call for an approximately 15,000-square-foot operation that will combine several parts of the Wright's business under one roof, including a café, bakery, espresso bar, gourmet market and an expanded catering operation.

The Brandon location is currently targeted to open in summer 2027.

More Than 60 Years of Tampa History

Wright's Gourmet House traces its roots back to 1963, when Pete and Marjorie Wright opened the original business in South Tampa.

Over the decades, Wright's became known for its large deli sandwiches, cakes, pastries and other baked goods. Its longtime South Tampa location remains at 1200 S. Dale Mabry Highway.

The business stayed in the Wright family for generations before being acquired by Caspers Co. in 2024.

The Brandon expansion represents another step in taking the longtime Tampa name beyond its original neighborhood.

What's Planned for Brandon?

The new location is expected to carry many of the foods associated with Wright's, including breakfast selections, deli sandwiches, salads, cakes, pastries and cookies.

Plans also include grab-and-go meals, take-and-bake items, event desserts and Wright's-branded products.

The larger building will provide room for an expanded catering operation as well.

According to recent local reporting, the Brandon location is expected to employ approximately 100 people once operational.

Did You Know?

The Brandon location isn't Wright's only expansion.

Earlier this year, Wright's opened a satellite café at Tampa General Hospital's Davis Islands campus.

Another approximately 15,000-square-foot Wright's location is planned for the Wiregrass Ranch area of Wesley Chapel, with an anticipated opening in summer 2028.

Know Before You Go

There's still a wait ahead.

The Brandon location is currently targeting summer 2027, and an exact opening date has not been announced.

But for a business that has spent more than six decades building its name in South Tampa, choosing Brandon for one of its first major expansion locations is noteworthy.

And sometime next summer, Brandon residents may no longer have to cross town to find out what generations of Tampa customers have been lining up for.
